‘Respect Guy’ brings ROAR message to students
Elementary students at Immaculate Conception School in Dennison learned lessons of respect, responsibility and kindness during a high-energy assembly led by Al Ulman, known as the Respect Guy.
Ulman travels the country sharing his ROAR program — Respect Others, Act Responsibly — through interactive assemblies that combine storytelling, magic and audience participation. His program focuses on respect, responsibility, bully prevention and positive behavior in a way that is engaging and age-appropriate.
“ROAR is a lesson of inclusion, acceptance, kindness, responsibility, respect, safety, bully prevention and accountability for actions,” Ulman said.
One memorable moment came when Ulman tore a tissue paper heart into pieces while explaining how unkind words and actions can hurt others. He then restored the heart, showing how kindness can heal. Students gasped and applauded at the trick, which reinforced the message.
He also encouraged students to practice everyday respect, such as introducing themselves, apologizing, walking away from conflict, including others during play and being friendly even if not close friends.
Ulman has shared his program in 32 states and continues to expand his outreach. For more information, visit The ROAR Show online or email theroarshow@gmail.com.
