Archivist to speak on Great Depression and New Deal

Mandy Altimus Stahl, archivist at the Massillon Museum, will present “The Great Depression and the New Deal (1929-1940)” Thursday, March 19, at 12:15 p.m. at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center, 425 Prospect St., Dover.
Stahl will discuss the causes and aftermath of the 1929 stock market crash and how the nation and local communities worked to recover from the Great Depression.
Stahl has worked at the Massillon Museum for more than 20 years. A Kent State University graduate, she has produced documentary projects for the museum, including “Massillon in the Great War: Voices from the Archives,” “The Legacy of Steel,” “The Greatest Generation” and “Faces of Rural America.”
She was the plenary speaker for the Society of Ohio Archivists 2016 Spring Conference, and she appeared on the Travel Channel show “Mysteries at the Museum” in 2015, retelling the story of Jacob Coxey’s 1894 protest march. Her book “Early Massillon and Lost Kendal” was published in 2017 in Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America series.
She serves on the boards of the Greater Stark County Urban League and the Massillon Historic Preservation Commission. She also serves as president of the Spring Hill Historic Home and Underground Railroad Site board of trustees and as treasurer and secretary for the Charity School of Kendal Foundation. In 2018, she was inducted into the YWCA Canton Women’s Hall of Fame.
The program is part of the Lunch and Learn series sponsored by the Dover Public Library on the third Thursday of each month. Programs are held at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.
