Harrisville is located in the eastern part of Harrison County in Shortcreek Township. The village was platted in 1814. Its population in 1821 was 130 — second only to Cadiz at the time.

For many years, a hack service operated between Cadiz and Harrisville, ending about 1905.

In 1796, Isaac Holmes built a cabin at the site that became the gateway to the village. A strong colony of the Friends Society also was located there.

Correction: In last week’s photo, the Village of Flushing was incorporated in 1849, not 1949. Sorry for the error.
