The Dover Public Library’s mini makerspace, the Maker Lounge, has new hours starting in March. The space will now be open Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Morning hours and more are available by appointment. Interested patrons can contact Teen Services Manager Liz Strauss at 330-343-6123 or at strausel@doverlibrary.org for more information.

The Maker Lounge, sponsored by the Romich Foundation, features free-to-use equipment, including a 3D printer, a sublimation printer, a heat press, a Cricut Maker and an XTool engraver. Patrons are able to learn and experiment with starting materials kept in stock, but those with a special project in mind are encouraged to supply their own materials or contact the library ahead of time to make sure what they need is on hand.

The makerspace is also home to various crafting supplies, including 3D printing pens, melty beads, friendship bracelet makers and a variety of scrapbooking supplies.

The Maker Lounge operates through donations of materials and funds. While most supplies found in the lounge do not have a set price, patrons who use the lounge are encouraged to make a donation to help the library keep supplies in stock.

“Our goal for the Maker Lounge has always been to create a space where all makers can experiment, be creative and make something awesome,” Strauss said. “If patrons find value in what they’ve made and want to help us keep going, we greatly appreciate the support.”

The Maker Lounge was started with materials and equipment provided by the Romich Foundation, which provides financial support for STEAM initiatives and programs that promote, encourage and support entrepreneurship in northeast Ohio. More information about the Romich Foundation can be found at romichfoundation.org.

Additional support for the Maker Lounge has been provided by a 21st Century Grant with Dover High School, which supports creative learning opportunities outside classroom walls.

The Dover Public Library is located at 525 N. Walnut St., Dover.
