Claymont dominated its home Division II sectional Feb. 28, winning the team title and four individual championships while advancing 12 wrestlers in 14 weight classes to the Coshocton District. The Mustangs totaled 235 points to finish comfortably ahead of second-place Minerva, which had 193.

Winning sectional titles for Claymont were sophomore Kole Wallace at 120 pounds, junior DreVonn Searcy at 132, junior Nile Abbuhl at 144 and sophomore Kamden Stout at 157.

Runners-up were sophomore Nash Edwards at 113, junior Daniel McGarr at 138 and sophomore Luke Henry at 150.

Also qualifying were freshman Lukas Patterson, fourth at 106; sophomore Quaid Shaw, third at 175; sophomore Calvin Edward, third at 190; senior Kendall Rennicker, fourth at 215; and junior Brody Cameron, third at 285.

Freshman Bryer Green placed fifth at 126 and will serve as a district alternate. Sophomore Lucas Toland finished sixth as Claymont wrestlers made the podium in every weight class.

Indian Valley advances 9 in Division II

Indian Valley finished third among nine teams at the Steubenville Division II sectional tournament. The Braves advanced nine wrestlers to the Coshocton District, crowned two sectional champions and had three alternates, placing 12 wrestlers on the podium in the 14 weight classes.

Winning sectional titles were sophomore Bodie Raymond at 113 pounds and senior Brock Albright at 126.

Runners-up were junior Bronko Braun at 120, sophomore Boston Braun at 138, senior Brogan O’Connor at 165, sophomore Bradley Barr at 175 and Cadyn Riggs at 190.

Also advancing were sophomore Brett O’Connor, third at 144, and senior Arian Braun, fourth at 157. Freshmen Drake Richardson at 106 and Owen Ayers at 132, along with senior Rowan Piccin at 150, each finished fifth to earn alternate spots.

The Braves scored 201 points, just behind runner-up West Holmes with 210. Beaver won with 226, while Steubenville had 191 in a tightly packed top half of the standings.

Area girls advance to district tournament

Strong performances throughout the Claymont Sectional brackets March 1 resulted in a dozen area wrestlers advancing to districts. New Philadelphia placed fourth in the team standings, one spot ahead of Claymont and two ahead of Tusky Valley. The top four finishers in each weight class will compete at the Coshocton District tournament.

At 100 pounds, Tusky Valley sophomore Olivia Whitlach won a sectional championship. New Philadelphia junior Rilee Jones placed fourth to advance, while Claymont sophomore Olivia Schneider finished fifth to earn alternate status.

At 105, Claymont freshman Laiken Warner placed third to advance. New Philadelphia junior Easton Miller was third at 110. Her classmate Devlin Herrington advanced at 120 with a fourth-place finish.

New Philadelphia senior Annabelle Rummell earned a runner-up finish at 125. Claymont junior Kyndall Boitnott and junior Chloe Tufford each placed third at 130 and 135, respectively. New Philadelphia junior Kylie Kirby will be an alternate after placing fifth at 140.

Tusky Valley junior Katie Board won a sectional title at 145, and Claymont junior Melody Parrish added a championship at 155. New Philadelphia senior Isabella Ramirez placed second at 190 to advance, finishing one spot ahead of Tusky Valley freshman Sidney Bosler. Claymont junior Jadyn Sproul qualified with a fourth-place finish at 235.
