Fire of undetermined origin caused damage estimated at $25,000 to the building and contents of Butler’s Store on Public Square in Carrollton.
Darrell K. Anderson was sworn in as acting postmaster at Dellroy, succeeding Wayne Roof.
James D. Cramblett and Joe Pittman were named honorary 4-H members at the annual Carroll County 4-H advisers banquet.
The Carrollton eighth-grade basketball team emerged county champions by defeating Malvern 37-31. Coached by Robert Bird, team members included co-captains Jerry Haver and Steve Fox, Nick Wells, Tom McClaskey, Doug DeVault, Alan Scott, Gary Ray, John Richards, Glen Lewis, Bob Barton, Tom Reed, Jim Hemming and Rick Storck.

Glenn Marshall, a Republican, was re-elected chairman of the Carroll County Board of Elections.
The Carrollton High School wrestling team, coached by Ralph Lloyd, was declared sectional champions and advanced to the district tournament.

CHS students Todd Williams and Karolyn Mallarnee were pictured with teacher John Gifford examining a telescope used to view Halley’s Comet.
Tom Lucas, a fourth-grade student at Carrollton Elementary School, won the countywide dental poster contest.
In their first year in Class AAA, the Minerva Lions placed third at the district meet in Louisville.

Robert First was sworn in as Minerva police chief by Mayor James Waller.
CHS freshman Nick Taylor qualified for the state wrestling meet.

A Harlem Springs girl, Rebecca Grunder, was featured on the front page regarding her plans to one day join the U.S. Karate Olympic team.
Taylor Thompson, an eighth-grade student at Bell-Herron Middle School, advanced to state-level competition in the annual Reader’s Digest Word Power Challenge.
CHS senior Matt Manfull, a 125-pound wrestler, picked up his 100th win during the state wrestling tournament.

Charter inductees of the Carroll County Emergency Services Appreciation and Recognition Day included Deputies Travis Louhan, Jason Jackson, Shane Beam and Ryan Salisak; Matt Iverson, firefighter with the Sherrodsville Volunteer Fire Department; Capt. Sam Arnold, Capt. Wayne Lippincott and Stephen Imes, firefighters with the Dellroy Volunteer Fire Department; Rick Jackson and Zeb Casper, firefighters with the Carrollton Village Fire Department; and K-9 Officer Oz, a police dog.
Area middle school students participating in the 70th Regional Grand Spelling Bee at GlenOak High School included Megan Gromley, representing Carrollton schools; Callin Wade of Brown Local at Malvern; and Makayla Williams, representing Minerva.
Youth wrestlers Dominack Speelman and Landon Jenkins competed at the Ohio Youth Wrestling Association state tournament, where Speelman placed third at 90 pounds with a 42-2 season record and Jenkins placed sixth at 52 pounds with a 37-7 season record.
