Sandy Valley Board approves hires, retirement and new policies
Board actions include personnel updates, fundraiser approvals and curriculum replacements ahead of the 2025–26 school year.
The Sandy Valley Board of Education handled several personnel items at its October meeting.
The board hired Kylee Smith, Gregory Wiggs and Marie Marcoldi as home instructors for the 2025–26 school year and accepted the retirement of teacher Laura Clear, effective at the end of the 2025–26 school year, after 18 years in public education.
It also approved a supplemental contract correction for junior varsity volleyball coach Madison Lakota; supplemental contracts for Karen Dean, Good News Club volunteer, and Frank Young, eighth-grade middle school football coach; and named Krista Glaser as a temporary substitute teacher. Melissa Humphrey was granted authority to hire a piano accompanist, not to exceed $250, for the fall 2025 Fine Arts Show.
In other business, the board approved student fundraisers for the Class of 2026 and the elementary library; reviewed the 2025–26 District Parent Participation Handbook; and approved disposal of outdated textbooks and curriculum materials to be replaced with newly purchased curriculum. Hunter Williams-Sanders was approved to attend Sandy Valley through open enrollment for the current school year.
Superintendent Matt Whitted reported on the Ohio School Boards Association conference, Business Advisory Council minutes, and plans to move Facility and Financial Liaison meetings to a quarterly schedule. He also noted that he is monitoring potential legislative changes at the state level.
The next meeting will be held Nov. 10 at 6 p.m.
