The nine indictments returned Feb. 4 by the Carroll County grand jury
included fraud and strangulation violations, along with seven drug-related
indictments.
According to Carroll County Prosecuting Attorney
Steven D. Barnett, the grand jury heard testimony from 10 witnesses involving
10 cases. Nine cases resulted in indictments, while one case was ignored.
Barnett said indictments were returned against
the following:
— Jenny McClintock, also known as Jenny B.
Turkish, 54, of 266 Pulaski Ave., Staten Island, New York, was indicted on two
counts of identity fraud against a person in a protected class, each a
fourth-degree felony.
According to the prosecutor, McClintock entered
the Bank of Magnolia Jan. 7, 2026, and attempted to obtain the balance of funds
in an account by using a U.S. passport card bearing her photograph but listing
the name and address of an elderly East Sparta woman. McClintock also had a
credit card in the name of the elderly woman in her possession.
The account had previously been closed by the
bank due to suspected fraudulent transfers. Magnolia police also notified the
Federal Bureau of Investigation, Barnett said.
— Lee T. Yates, 58, of 1850 Second St. SW,
Apt. 500, Cuyahoga Falls, was indicted on one count of strangulation, a
third-degree felony, and one count of assault, a first-degree misdemeanor. It
is alleged that on Sept. 15, 2025, Yates slapped and choked a woman at an
Avalon Road address after meeting her on a dating app.
— Sabrina E. Hazelip, 38, of 106 Liberty St.,
Amsterdam, was indicted on one count of illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse
onto the grounds of a detention facility, a third-degree felony. Corrections
officers at the Carroll County jail found two strips of Suboxone hidden in the
binding of a notebook Hazelip brought into the jail for an inmate Jan. 1, 2026.
— Steven W. Shawgo, 45, of 5057 Avalon Road
NW, Carrollton, was indicted on one count of tampering with evidence, a
third-degree felony, and one count of possessing drug abuse instruments, a
second-degree misdemeanor.
During a traffic stop Jan. 9, 2026, Carroll
County sheriff’s deputies observed a liquid-filled syringe in Shawgo’s vehicle.
When a deputy returned to seize the syringe for further investigation into its
contents, the syringe had been emptied onto the ground, allegedly by Shawgo.
— Jason T. Peltz, 50, of 302 Rumley St.,
Jewett, was indicted on one count of possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree
felony; one count of operating a vehicle while impaired, a first-degree
misdemeanor; and one count of drug paraphernalia offenses, a fourth-degree
misdemeanor.
According to the prosecutor, Ohio State
Highway Patrol troopers stopped Peltz’s vehicle Jan. 18, 2026, in Loudon
Township after observing a traffic violation. During the stop, troopers found a
small bag containing a substance that field-tested positive for cocaine. A
rolled-up $1 bill used to ingest cocaine residue was also found in the vehicle.
After completing field sobriety tests, troopers determined Peltz was impaired.
— Christopher A. Calmes, 46, of 1704 W. Main
St., Apt. A, Fort Wayne, Indiana, was indicted on two counts of aggravated
possession of drugs, each a fifth-degree felony.
Carroll County sheriff’s deputies found
psilocybin mushrooms and ecstasy in Calmes’ vehicle after he was arrested Jan.
10, 2026, for driving under suspension during a traffic stop on Avalon Road
near Malvern.
— Todd A. Misitano, 52, of 6079 Gary Drive NW,
Malvern, was indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a
third-degree felony, and one count of possessing drug abuse instruments, a
second-degree misdemeanor.
Carroll County sheriff’s deputies found
approximately 4.25 grams of methamphetamine in Misitano’s vehicle after he was
stopped Jan. 12, 2026, and arrested on an outstanding warrant. Syringes used to
administer methamphetamine were also found in the vehicle.
— Kelsey Jo Shaver, 31, of 205 S. Market St.,
Minerva, and Nathan I. Pappas, 36, of 11710 Georgetown St., Louisville, were
each indicted on drug charges.
Shaver was indicted on one count of aggravated
possession of drugs, a second-degree felony, and one count of obstructing
official business, a second-degree misdemeanor. Pappas was indicted on one
count of aggravated possession of drugs, a second-degree felony, and one count
of driving under suspension, a first-degree misdemeanor.
According to the prosecutor, Carroll County
sheriff’s deputies found approximately 83 grams of methamphetamine after a K-9
alert on a vehicle stopped Jan. 15, 2026, on Leisure Road and driven by Pappas.
During the traffic stop, deputies determined
Pappas was driving under suspension and had an outstanding arrest warrant from
Stark County. Shaver allegedly provided inaccurate information regarding her
identity. Both Shaver and Pappas had access to the methamphetamine found in the
passenger compartment of the vehicle.
Arraignments
for those indicted are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 19, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
before Carroll County Common Pleas Court Judge Michael V. Repella II.
