For brides planning showers, rehearsal gatherings or reception food, Deli on the Square owner Laura Byler offers multiple options that can be tailored to wedding-related events, including catering, grazing tables and space rental when the restaurant is not in use.

Byler said renting the space has been part of the business plan since the beginning.

“I’ve always done evenings, Saturdays, like on the weekends when the space isn’t being utilized, so I might as well rent it out,” Byler said.

In addition to rental availability, Byler said the deli caters a wide range of events, including weddings.

“I cater for weddings, baby showers, birthday parties or anything really,” she said.

Byler said the catering options are flexible and not limited to a set menu.

“I have a small catering menu, but I’m not limited to that because I can basically make anything,” she said.

Depending on the event, Byler said the deli offers both pickup and on-site catering.

“We do pickup catering or on-site catering,” she said.

A major focus for bridal events, Byler said, is charcuterie and grazing-style setups, particularly as appetizer displays for weddings.

“We do boards and we also do grazing tables,” she said. “We do a lot of appetizer charcuterie tables for weddings. That’s my favorite thing to do. It’s so relaxing and that’s what I love about it.”

Byler said she enjoys the creative process involved in designing the displays.

Byler said she does not use a set menu for boards and grazing tables, allowing couples flexibility in what they choose. Typical items can include meats, cheeses, fruits, nuts, crackers, chocolates and dips. She said couples looking for a more filling option can also add mini sandwiches.

As the deli approaches its third anniversary under Byler’s ownership, she said the business has continued to grow.

“It’ll be three years in February,” she said, adding that her anniversary falls on Valentine’s Day. “I still love it just as much as the first day.”

Byler said the catering side of the business has expanded significantly during that time.

“The business has really grown in the three years,” she said, “and especially the catering part of it.”

She said the past three years have also brought important lessons about the workload that comes with making food from scratch.

“I learned that this is my life,” she said. “Making everything from scratch, I’m only open for four hours, but I’m here for a lot more than that.”

One of the biggest lessons, she said, has been learning to delegate.

“I think the biggest thing I’ve learned is to delegate a little bit more,” Byler said. “I don’t have to do everything myself.”

Byler credited her staff with helping the business operate smoothly and maintain strong relationships with customers.

“They know the menu inside out,” she said. “It’s great, and they really care, and they know all the customers, and customers know them.”

She also expressed appreciation for community support.

“I’m so grateful for the community support,” Byler said. “Without this community, I wouldn’t be here.”

Deli on the Square is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. For catering or event rental information, Byler said people can call 330-627-0537.
