John Kenneth Saltsman, secretary of the Carrollton Junior Chamber of Commerce, received the Carrollton Jaycees 1965 Distinguished Service Award.
J. Robert Stratton was elected president of the newly organized Carroll County Community Improvement Corporation (CIC). When given legal authority by the county commissioners, the CIC becomes the county’s official development organization with power to buy or lease land and buildings, improve same and sell, lease or give these improved facilities to interested commercial companies.
Tom Harp, 38, who began his football coaching career at Carrollton High School, was named head grid mentor at Duke University in Durham, N.C.

A glazed ceramic tile logo, designed by Dale Wright of Carrollton, a foreman at Structural Stoneware Inc. in Minerva, was placed in the main lobby floor of Carroll County’s new safety building (jail).
E. E. Surbey was appointed president of The Cummings Bank Co. in Carrollton, the financial institution founded in 1870.
The Carrollton wrestlers, coached by Ralph Lloyd, demolished visiting Senate League Lake 57-5 in what was expected to be a much closer match than what was etched on the scoreboard after the battle.

Chad Lowdermilk, a student in Janet Schopfer’s first grade, showed up at a class “show and tell” event with his dad, Kirk Lowdermilk, a center for the Minnesota Vikings pro football team and a former outstanding center for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The Carrollton High School FFA chapter hosted national FFA president Rick Malir, son of a Kansas grain and cattle farmer, at a meeting in the Carrollton school cafeteria with members of the Carrollton, Minerva and Buckeye FFA chapters.
The Minerva Lions basketball team rolled over Sandy Valley and Tusky Valley by scores of 63-10 and 55-18, respectively.

Dr. Keith D. Burgett, owner and president of Carrollton Animal Hospital and owner and operator of Burgett Angus Farm, was appointed to the State Veterinary Medical Board by Ohio Gov. George V. Voinovich.
Leroy Bartley, owner and operator of Bartley Funeral Home in Minerva and Deckman-Bartley Funeral Home in Malvern, was the subject of a feature story in the Jan. 25, 1996, issue of the FPS.
Ridgewood journeyed to Malvern and the Hornets came away with an easy 81-53 cage win.

Carrollton Village Council elected David Flanary to fill the empty sixth seat.
Candace Cheuvront and Aaron Crowell reigned as queen and king of Minerva High School’s 2006 winter homecoming.
A trombone quartet comprised of two Carrollton High School graduates and two Florida residents performed over the Christmas holidays at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The CHS performers included Vickii (Detchon) Latimer and her brother, Danny Detchon, of near Dellroy.
Bob Waley of Carrollton rolled his first 300 series at Carroll Lanes Bowling.

The three vacant seats on Leesville Village Council were filled by appointment of John Traxler, former mayor, Christine Romig and Erin Sterling.
Robert (Bob) Leach of Magnolia was the subject of a “Get to Know” feature story highlighting his career as a community-oriented teacher, retired Sandy Valley football coach and member of The Bugs, a trio of Sandy Valley teachers comprised of Leach, James (Jim) Hunter and Dave Spiker, who entertained with their humorous anecdotes.
The Carrollton Warriors dominated a 51-15 win over Alliance, owning a top spot in NBA standings.
