United Way to host annual New Philadelphia Pickleball Open on Labor Day

The United Way of Tuscarawas County will host its third annual New Philadelphia Pickleball Open Monday, Sept. 1, at Tuscora Park in New Philadelphia. The event begins at 8 a.m. and will run throughout the day.

The tournament will feature men’s, women’s and mixed doubles competitions, with 16 teams per category. Players with a 4.0 skill rating or below are encouraged to participate. The first-place team in each category will receive a $100 cash prize, while second place will receive $50. Medals will be awarded to the top three teams in each category.

The cost to participate is $40 per person, or $60 for those who wish to compete in two categories. Each player is guaranteed at least two games. Teams may register online at www.tuscunitedway.org/events. Players who register by Friday, Aug. 22, will receive a free T-shirt.

Proceeds will benefit the United Way of Tuscarawas County and the 12 local health and human service partner agencies it supports.

The New Philadelphia Pickleball Open began in 2023 when United Way campaign co-chairs Mitch and Kiley Kendall were playing pickleball at Tuscora Park with their son, Kyle, who suggested a tournament to raise funds. “Over the past two years, the New Philadelphia Pickleball Open has become a highlight for our community — bringing together local pickleball enthusiasts for friendly yet competitive play, growing the popularity of the game in our area and, most importantly, rallying support for the great causes championed by the United Way of Tuscarawas County,” said Kyle Kendall.
