Tusky Valley Ruritan Club holds holiday dinner, names 2025 Ruritan of the Year
Club shares fundraiser plans, food trailer repairs and honors longtime member Jim Downing for service
The Tusky Valley Ruritan Club met Tuesday, Nov. 15, for its holiday dinner at the Tusky Valley Senior Center on the Tusky Valley School District campus. Ten members and 11 guests were in attendance. The meal was catered by Kathy’s Cookies, Candies & Catering and included chicken tenders, thighs and legs, roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, noodles, green beans, broccoli salad, tossed salad and rolls. Desserts were strawberry cake and chocolate peanut butter cup delight.
President Randie McRobie handed out flyers advertising the club’s Super Bowl pizza fundraiser along with order forms. Members will accept orders for three pizza options until Jan. 23, 2026. Pizzas will be assembled and ready for pickup Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at the Mineral City American Legion building between noon and 2 p.m., just in time for the Super Bowl.
The club discussed repairs underway on its food trailer, with member Jim Downing sharing photos showing extensive rotting wood around windows and shelving. Downing will gather material estimates and report back to determine the scope of renovations members want to pursue.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2025 Ruritan of the Year award to Downing by Dick Gooding. Downing has been a member for 27 years and has served in all leadership positions. He is also active in his church and with the Atwood Fall Festival Committee.
The next regular monthly meeting will be Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Fairfield Fire Department in Somerdale.
