Gabriel Riggle to support floodplain compliance efforts while continuing community ties through local service and advocacy
Tuscarawas County native Gabriel Riggle was recently sworn in as an emergency management specialist for FEMA Region 9, focusing on floodplain compliance.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is made up of 10 regions in addition to its headquarters in Washington, D.C. FEMA’s mission is to help people before, during and after disasters. Riggle has held several positions with the agency, including in hazard mitigation and environmental protection.
In his current role with Region 9, he supports state and local officials to ensure communities participating in the National Flood Insurance Program properly regulate development in hazardous flood zones. The work is intended to protect life and property and safeguard the long-term solvency of the program.
Riggle is a 2004 graduate of Indian Valley High School. He remains connected to his hometown through scripture readings for the Moravian Shared Ministry online services and as board president of the outdoors advocacy organization TuscLands.
