Tuscarawas County Health Department to offer free addiction response training
The Tuscarawas County Health Department will lead a free training, Responding to Addiction, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St.
The class is open to local adults of all ages, but space is limited to 25 participants. Registration is required at https://bit.ly/45crbzr or by calling 330-343-5555, ext. 1780.
Developed by the Addiction Policy Forum, Responding to Addiction is designed to increase knowledge about addiction and provide skills and strategies to help the community.
During the training, participants will learn:
— Signs and symptoms of addiction.
— Evidence-based treatment options.
— Medications available to treat addiction.
— Recovery support and relapse prevention.
— How to start conversations with someone in need of support.
— Engagement strategies.
All participants will receive a free naloxone (Narcan) kit after the training.
A pilot study conducted by the Addiction Policy Forum and the University of Delaware tested the course’s effectiveness at 30 sites across several states. More than 200 participants took part, and results showed the program increased addiction literacy and confidence in responding to substance use disorder.
For more information or to request a free naloxone kit, visit www.tchdnow.org/project-dawn.html, call 330-343-5555, ext. 1780, or email narcan@tchdnow.org
