Strasburg church resumes monthly speaker series

Presentations will be held the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

A practical overview of the estate planning process will be the focus at the March 12 event.

Strasburg St. John United Church of Christ is resuming a monthly speaker series focused on helping educate the community on topics that affect everyday life.

The series is free and open to the public, but registration is requested for planning purposes. Presentations will be held the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. To register, call St. John United Church of Christ at 330-878-5113.

Scheduled presentations through May include:

— Feb. 12: Awareness of over-the-counter drugs and interactions with prescription medications, presented by Heather Spinell, a pharmacist with Absolute Pharmacy.

— March 12: A practical overview of the estate planning process, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney and health care directives, with a focus on planning for efficient transfer of property at death, presented by attorney Mark Wagner. Wagner is recognized by Best Lawyers in elder law and trusts and estates and works in the New Philadelphia and Canton offices for Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths & Dougherty Co., L.P.A.

— April 9: Avoiding probate, presented by Tuscarawas County Court of Common Pleas Probate Judge Adam Wilgus.

— May 14: Downsizing and decluttering, presented by Ruth Ann Martin. Martin will share her decision to downsize in her early 70s and offer practical advice based on her experiences helping elderly parents and preparing so the task is not left to her children. Martin will join the program from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she lives at Fairmount Retirement Home.
