St. Mary’s students celebrate dads and grandpas
The event offered one-on-one time for the children and their role models to build memories
Students in St. Mary’s preschool and prekindergarten classes invited their dads or grandfathers to school to build more memories together. The children prepared for the special day by making ties for their guests, drawing pictures of them and answering questions about them. They were excited for the day to arrive.
The theme for the event was building, with “Thanks for building our future” serving as the backdrop for photos created by parent Emma Yant. Teacher RonnaCoventry, with help from the children, read “Mighty Dads.”
The children and their dads wore plastic hard hats and built a fire truck from a kit donated by Lowe’s. The children enjoyed using real hammers and nails to build the truck. The sound of hammering was mixed with laughter and conversation between the dads or grandfathers and the children.
After the fire trucks were built, the hammers put away and the trash cleaned up, the children treated their guests to a drink and snack. Photos also were taken before everyone left of the dads and children holding the pictures the children had drawn.
