Claymont Foundation to honor alumni, present scholarships May 9

The Claymont Foundation is a nonprofit organization established to enhance educational opportunities for Claymont City Schools

The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded each year to a Claymont student or alum who is pursuing additional education via trade school or a two- or four-year college or university.

The Claymont Foundation will host its annual Alumni Awards Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Claymont High School. The event will include scholarship presentations to current Claymont seniors, Buckeye Career Center students and college and technical students who graduated from Claymont. The foundation also will recognize its 2026 alumni award winners.

The Alumnus Achievement Award, presented to an individual whose contributions have made an impact on society and the community, will go to Jeffrey White, a 1976 Claymont graduate.

White is a lifelong member of the Twin City community. He attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College, the University of Arizona and Kent State University before returning to the Twin Cities, where he built a career and raised a family with his wife, Sherry.

White has worked as a financial adviser for more than 40 years and founded White Financial Group in 1984. He and his family also opened 311 Wine Room and Stillwater Outfitters.

The Alumnus of the Year Award, which recognizes leadership in a chosen career field, will be presented to Toby Norris, a 1990 Claymont graduate.

Norris earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Ohio State University in 1994. He is chief operating officer for Virginia Eagle Distributing Co. LLC in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he oversees strategic direction, leadership and operations for a beer, wine and nonalcoholic beverage distribution company.

The Citizen of the Year Award, presented to an individual active in community education and awareness, will go to Amy Madoni Myers, a 1989 Claymont graduate.

Myers has been a licensed realtor since 2011 and has worked in the real estate industry for 18 years. She is active in numerous organizations, including the East Central Association of Realtors, Tuscarawas County Board of Realtors, Ohio Realtors, Women’s Council of Realtors, the Twin City Chamber of Commerce and Dennison Rotary.

The Distinguished Alumni Award, which honors an individual who has dedicated a life or career to the service of humanity, will be presented to Brent Wolfe, a 2002 Claymont graduate.

Wolfe earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Otterbein University in 2006 and an MBA from Ashland University in 2009. He also holds multiple Department of War certifications in financial management and Lean Six Sigma.

The Teacher of the Year Award will be presented to Jacob Baldwin, a computer and technology teacher at Claymont City Schools and a 2006 Claymont graduate.

School officials said he strives to create a student-centered classroom environment where students are encouraged to take risks, learn from failure and grow academically and personally.

Baldwin lives in Dennison with his wife, Colleen.
