Scholarship breakfast set March 14 at Buckeye Career Center

A breakfast fundraiser at Buckeye Career Center will support a scholarship in memory of former staff member Shannon Wigfield.

The second annual Shannon Wigfield Scholarship Breakfast will be held from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at Buckeye Career Center, 545 University Drive NE, New Philadelphia. Proceeds will support the Shannon Wigfield Scholarship through the Buckeye Career Center Foundation, which awards a $2,500 scholarship to a Buckeye Career Center senior. Lora Shaw received the scholarship last year.

Wigfield taught at Buckeye Career Center for 24 years. She died following the November 2023 bus crash involving the Tusky Valley band and chaperones.

The menu will include doughnuts from Dutch Valley, MaryAnn’s and Rod’s Donuts, along with fruit and yogurt parfaits. Drinks will be provided by Rolling Refreshments Beverage Catering, including a specialty cold brew called Shannon’s Special. A silent auction is also planned.

“I think the biggest takeaway is that the community is still showing up to support Shannon and that is really what matters here. It’s not just for the scholarship, it’s also a day to remember and celebrate Shannon. We miss her every day,” event co-organizer Katrina Bundy said.

Tickets are $10 and will be sold in advance. Walk-in tickets will be available the morning of the event until sold out. Children 2 and under will receive a complimentary meal.
