New Philadelphia wraps fall sports with individuals receiving honors

Boys cross country has stellar campaign for Quakers

New Philadelphia’s boys cross country team, once ranked No. 1 in the state, proved themselves to be among the state’s best throughout the year. The Quakers finished 20th in the state in the Division II final.

Prior to that, the Quakers finished second in the OCC behind only Division II state champion Lexington. For their efforts they received all kinds of all-conference honors.

Kip Brady was conference co-coach of the year. Seniors Marcus Adelman and Alex Adelman were All-OCC performers. Marcus Adelman was conference runner-up. Senior Kyle Beaber and junior Kevin Smith earned second-team conference honors.

New Philadelphia’s girls came in third behind Lexington and West Holmes. Junior Kylie Smith was a first-team All-OCC runner and wound up earning an individual trip to the state meet.

The following is a look back at the fall season and the many all-league honors received by various New Philadelphia athletes throughout the late-summer and early-fall competition.

Boys soccer

The Quakers finished a solid 11-8-1, 3-4-1 in the GCC, which was good for sixth place. Sophomore Miles Beitzel gave New Philadelphia fans something to look forward to as he was named first-team All-OCC. He went on to earn first-team All-Ohio honors in Division III.

Senior Asher Zimmerman earned a second-team nod. Receiving all-league honorable mentions were senior Luis Herrera-Lopez and sophomore Nick Riessen. 

Girls Soccer

New Philadelphia finished eighth in the conference, going 0-7-1, 2-14-1 overall. The Quakers landed sophomore Leah Kutcher on the all-conference second team. Seniors Piper Poole and Miriam Hernandez-Sica each earned an all-conference honorable mention.

Volleyball

The Quakers finished 7-17 overall, 5-19 in the OCC. Senior Marissa Loader’s year ended with a second-team berth on the All-OCC team. Juniors Eberle Baker and Kaitrin Burnworth each earned an all-league honorable mention.

Golf

Led by Brady Evans, who placed fourth in the conference to earn a position on the All-OCC first team, the Quaker boys finished fourth in the seven-team standings. Jackson Martini finished 11th overall and earned a place on the all-conference second team. … The Quaker girls finished fifth in the league. Ella Ridgway placed fifth in the league individually to earn a spot on the all-conference first team. Sadie Compher received an All-OCC honorable mention.

Football

A 5-5 season that ended with four wins in the final six games for a 4-3 conference finish produced a number of individual honors. Senior Vincent Migoni, Myles Tyson Caleb Carlisle and Brodie Lindsay earned first-team all-conference honors. Senior Cohen Winters, and juniors Caleb Crowthers, Parker Rieger and Kolston Fox were named second-team All-OCC. Seniors Carter Watson, Peyton Miller and Jackson Norris each received an all-conference honorable mention.
