Stephanie Bohnak of the National First Ladies Library will be the guest speaker at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.

Bohnak will present “The Pen and the People: Eleanor Roosevelt and World War II,” focusing on Roosevelt’s role during the war as first lady, journalist and advocate for human rights. The program will examine how Roosevelt used her public platform to inform, encourage and influence public opinion while promoting a more inclusive democracy.

Roosevelt expanded the role of first lady by engaging directly with the public through writing, travel and public appearances. Through her syndicated column, “My Day,” she addressed social and political issues, supported servicemembers and their families, promoted civil rights and encouraged civic engagement.

Bohnak is director of education and curatorial services for the National First Ladies Library and Museum. She holds a master’s degree in history and public history from Bowling Green State University with a focus on women’s history and American enslavement. She oversees educational programming and outreach and assists with collections management and curation.

The program is part of the Lunch and Learn series sponsored by the Dover Public Library, held the third Thursday of each month. Programs take place at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center, 425 Prospect St., Dover.
