Dover’s swim teams flexed their collective muscle last week in a tri-meet with Ashland at New Philadelphia.

The Tornado boys beat New Philadelphia 61-48, while the girls topped their rivals 74-30. Ashland, with strong teams on both sides, defeated both Tuscarawas County squads.

For Dover’s boys, winners were Tanis Handerhan in the 200 freestyle; Thomas Perkowski in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke; and the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams of Handerhan, Perkowski, Danny Peltz and Kelvin Martinez-Flores.

For Dover’s girls, top finishers included Ruth Cotlet, runner-up in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, and Abigail Lane, runner-up in the 100 backstroke.

For the Quaker girls, MaKenna Cole won the 200 freestyle. For New Philadelphia’s boys, Jacob Haren won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.

Dover wrestling: Dover had a strong day Saturday at the Todd Day Memorial at West Holmes, placing five wrestlers in the top six. Carrollton won the tournament with 246 points. Dover finished eighth among 15 teams with 98.5. Tornado placers were senior Brock Reynolds (second, 113 pounds); and sophomores Brody Chrisman (fourth, 132) and Patrick Moran (fourth, 157); and juniors Frank Ramirez (fourth, 106) and Jackson Criner (fourth, 175).

Newcomerstown wrestling: The Trojans placed tied for 14th with Waterford with 56.5 points at the Jimmy Wood Invitational at New Lexington. Twenty-five teams competed. Barnesville won with 264.5 points. Chase Norman led Newcomerstown with a fourth-place finish at 106 pounds. Calland Evans finished fifth at 285, and Colton Hudnall placed seventh at 120.

Indian Valley wrestling: Competing in a 21-team field at the Bulldog Brawl at Green High School, the Braves finished sixth with 126.5 points. Louisville won with 300. Indian Valley runners-up were sophomore Bodie Raymond (113), junior Bronko Braun (120) and senior Arian Braun (157). Sophomore Bradley Barr placed third at 175, and sophomore Boston Braun finished fourth at 138.

Indian Valley also competed in the Peg Leg Scuffle at Garaway, finishing fourth in a 16-team field with 190 points. Host Garaway won with 254. Indian Valley placers included Drake Richardson (second, 113), Brock Albright (second, 120), Owen Ayers (third, 132), Brett O’Connor (third, 144), Rowan Piccin (fourth, 150), Octivous Holland (second, 157), Brogan O’Connor (fourth, 165), Grayson Truex (fourth, 175) and Cadyn Riggs (second, 190).

New Philadelphia wrestling: Also at the Peg Leg Scuffle, the Quakers finished fifth with 121.5 points. Tyler Ulmer won the 132-pound championship. Also placing were Evvan Torchik (fifth, 126), Camden Richardson (second, 138), Luka Zadra (third, 150), Sente Mejia (sixth, 157) and Myles Tyson (fifth, 190).
