Dover library to host community ukulele workshop

The instructional program will include topics such as basic strumming and picking, beginner chord melody and a look at the ukulele’s history in American music.

The Dover Public Library will host a Community Ukulele Workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 28.

Presented by Nashville-based ukulele teaching artist Charissa Hoffman, the instructional program will include topics such as basic strumming and picking, beginner chord melody and a look at the ukulele’s history in American music.

Hoffman is known for her intricate jazz arrangements and alt-folk originals. She was the first ukulele principal to graduate from Berklee College of Music and has toured the country teaching and performing, recording with artists including Béla Fleck, Chris Eldridge of Punch Brothers, Kenny Werner and others.

The cost to attend the workshop is $25, or $15 for students. Register at doverlibrary.org or by calling the library at 330-343-6123. The library also has ukuleles available to loan if participants do not have an instrument.
