A sweet fundraiser will be held Feb. 7 at the Tuscarawas Village Community Center, 222 E. Cherry St., Tuscarawas, to help support the Tuscarawas County Council for Church and Community and their projects to help the community.

Layers of Love, a cake tasting event, will be held from noon to 3 p.m. and a number of area bakery businesses and bakers will provide the cakes.

Cost of the event is $10 per ticket, and participants will be able to sample 10 of their favorites among about 20 different cakes. Everyone who is tasting will need a ticket and only 250 tickets will be sold. Tickets can be purchased by calling the T4C before the event; any tickets left will be available at the door.

With their ticket, participants will also receive five tickets for the cake raffle. Additional raffle tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the event.

“Our bakers are making a cake for display, the one that we're going to raffle off. They're also making a sheet cake with that same flavor so that people can taste them and say ‘I want to try to win this one,’” Leslie Booth, executive director of the T4C.

There will also be a donation only concession stand with lunch items, snacks and soft drinks available. Booth is grateful to the village of Tuscarawas for donating the space for the fundraiser.

“I think it's just going to be a fun thing to do, we’re going to have all kinds of cakes there. It's around Valentine's Day, so come win your sweetie a cake,” Booth said.

The funds raised at the event support the general fund of the T4C and help with expenses.

In other T4C projects, the organization is collecting quarters for their laundry days project that helps Tuscarawas County residents cover their laundry costs for up to four loads each scheduled laundry day.

“We've got plenty of laundry soap and plenty of fabric softener. The community has been wonderful dropping that off, but we are in need of quarters so that we can continue that program,” Booth said. “If anybody wants to drop off a monetary donation for the laundry days, that would be perfect, or rolls of quarters, we appreciate it.”

Looking back to the organizations 2025 Share-A-Christmas program which provides toys, food, and clothing to families in need, Booth was pleased with the local support. It allowed them to provide a better holiday for 1,090 children and 1,225 adults including 200 senior care packages and 1,142 pillows, chap sticks and lotions for nursing home residents. They received 999 applications for help.

“We had such great support from our local schools, 4-H groups, different organizations that helped us deliver, make ornaments, make Christmas cards. We had a wonderful group of sewers that made the pillows for us,” Booth said. “The community just came together like always, we are very blessed here in Tuscarawas County, because they all came together and it went very well.”

The event was held for the first time at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds making the toy drive easier.

“People didn't have to get out of their cars. It was drive up, drive out and it was nice,” Booth said. The same process was then used for pickup of Share-A-Christmas items by the families. Indian Valley FFA students helped with unloading and loading for the program.

Booth was also grateful to the local media for their help getting the word out on the event. Follow the T4C Facebook page for upcoming information on other events being announced later this year.
