We all learned the term "age appropriate" when we were raising our children. As your loved one's memory loss progresses, you'll need to learn a new term called "stage appropriate."
It is important to learn the various stages your loved one or client will face. A lot of factors can be involved. Of course, each situation will differ. There are no right or wrong issues, just different ones for each individual and family.
—Prepare yourself and be aware of what might be coming as you continue your journey.
—No one should be expected to handle the caregiving responsibilities alone.
—As your load of care increases, so should your support team.
—Always put your loved ones' safety first.
—Stay in touch with your loved ones' medical professionals and follow their advice.
—Last but not least, take care of yourself.
