'A Playground of Talent' opens March 22

The annual student art exhibition, "A Playground of Talent," will open from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, March 22 at Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum with a special reception. Admission during the opening event is free, and the exhibit will be open until Sunday, April 19.

The elementary portion of the exhibit will showcase artwork created by students in kindergarten through sixth grade from Coshocton city and county schools, as well as homeschooled students. Each piece is selected by the students’ art teachers in recognition of creativity, skill and individual expression.

Visitors will see a range of artistic media including acrylic paint, collage, crayon, watercolor, mixed media and more. The exhibit will highlight the unique ways children see and interpret the world around them.

The high school gallery will feature works by young artists from Ridgewood High School, Coshocton High School, River View High School, Coshocton Opportunity School and local homeschool programs. Selected by high school art instructors for their artistic merit, the pieces will represent a range of styles and techniques.

Media on display will include watercolor, acrylic, graphite, digital art, sculpture, ceramics and other 3D forms. Student entries will be evaluated by a panel of local artists, with awards presented in three categories: 2D Art, 3D Art, and Black and White. The high school exhibit will demonstrate not only technical skill, but also thoughtful exploration of themes, personal identity and contemporary issues through art.

"A Playground of Talent" is made possible through the support of The Schooler Family Fund and in part by an investment of public funds from the Ohio Arts Council. The OAC is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally and economically.

The JHM is located in Historic Roscoe Village at 300 N. Whitewoman St. in Coshocton. All Sundays are free admission to Coshocton County residents.
