Storm damage leads to removal of village flagpole
Village Administrator Chris Kiehl said the flagpole was bent by the strong winds and damaged beyond repair
The Carrollton Village Square flagpole sustained significant damage during the March 7 shear wind storm, which caused damage across the Carrollton area.
The storm brought shear winds between 58 and 62 mph, downing trees and power lines and prompting numerous calls for service throughout the village. The Emergency Management Agency reported that despite the strong winds, no tornado occurred during the March 7 storm.
Village Administrator Chris Kiehl said the flagpole was bent by the strong winds and damaged beyond repair.
Due to the extent of the damage, the flagpole was recently removed. Crews used a crane and a circular hand saw to take down the bent structure.
“We are working on getting another pole to replace the old one,” Kiehl said.
