During her 51 years with the Carrollton Exempted Village School District, Rose Seck advanced from classroom teacher to administrator and later to long-term service on the Board of Education, including six years as board president.
Seck began her career teaching third grade at the former Carrollton Elementary School. She later became an elementary supervisor and advanced to curriculum director before retiring in August 2008.
Throughout her time as an educator, Seck coordinated numerous spelling bees at Carrollton and Malvern schools and participated in many other school activities. These included coordinating The Free Press Standard’s former series titled What’s Happening in Our Schools.
While employed by the district, Seck was named a Jennings Scholar during the 1981-82 school year, was nominated for Ohio Teacher of the Year in 1982 and was selected as an honorary 4-H member in 1989.
Her service to the district continued after retirement through her work on the Carrollton Board of Education. In 2024, she was honored as a Distinguished Board Member by the Ohio School Boards Association and received a certificate recognizing 15 years of service on the school board.
In addition to her work in education, Seck has been active in numerous civic and community organizations. She currently serves as president of the Carroll County Teachers Association and is a longtime member and parliamentarian of the Alpha Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She is also involved with Carrollton Business Women and serves on the board of the John H. and Evelyn Ashton Preservation Association.
She previously participated in projects with the Carrollton Junior Women’s Club and the Carrollton Music Study Club, both of which have since disbanded.
Seck graduated as salutatorian of the Class of 1969 from the former St. Edward High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1973 and a master’s degree in 1982, both from the University of Akron.
She is the widow of the late Joe Seck, a longtime Carrollton resident who graduated from Carrollton High School in 1969 and Kent State University in 1973 with a degree in civil engineering. He also served as a Harrison Township trustee.
