Winners in the 1965 Carroll County 4-H safety speaking contest were Diane Beckley and Lee Rummell, junior division; Evelyn Lambert and Ray Rummell, senior division. 

Filling Carroll County’s 183rd induction call into the Armed Services were William H. Watt, Martin D. Williams, Jackie R. Roy, and twins Robert J. and Ronald Udeck. 

Glenn Sutherin, who resigned as head football coach at Minerva High School in midseason last fall, was hired as head grid mentor at Springfield Local High School between Amsterdam and Bergholz.

A Bicentennial Community flag was presented by State Senator Douglas Applegate, and ground was broken for a new bandstand in Carrollton’s Public Square Park. 

Ninety-four members of Carrollton High School’s 1975 Warrior Marching Band returned home from a six-day band camp held at the Mount Union College campus. 

Jeff Mills, a member of Carrollton High School’s golf team and Tuesday night summer civic league, shot a hole-in-one at Atwood Golf Course.

A 1 percent sales tax on all taxable items purchased in Carroll County was scheduled to go into effect Sept. 1 as a result of a tax enacted by the Carroll County Commissioners — more commonly known as a piggyback sales tax — for a three-year period. 

Mike Albert, a former Carrollton man and well-known CHS wrestler, took the “triple crown” honors by winning the state auctioneers contest at the 1985 Ohio State Fair. 

Ray Novak was named the new band director at Sandy Valley High School. 

The team of golfers Bob McLean and Harold Tinlin, both of Carrollton, Bill Zimmerman of Bowerston, and John Suma of Alliance won a trip to the state finals of the Ohio Scramble after shooting a scorching 10-under-par at the regional playoffs.

Bethany Frew of Carrollton took top honors by placing first in the 9-year-old category of the Sheep Skillathon at the 1995 Ohio State Fair. 

The Roy Pearson family, who performed at their parents’ golden wedding anniversary in 1970, was pictured in a feature story in the Aug. 24, 1995, issue of The FPS. Singers included Merle, Myron, Roy, Chuck, Carl, and Donald. 

The Carrollton Water Warriors took home 10 gold, two silver, and eight bronze medals at the East-Central Swim League championships in Wooster.

Josh Lumley and Chris Hyde were inducted as the 99th and 100th members, respectively, of Malvern’s Boy Scout Troop 155. 

The first service for a new church — The Church of the Risen Sun — was held in Mechanicstown. 

Carroll County 4-H Club members Ryan Buck and Jeff Stevens won coveted clock trophies in their respective classes at the Ohio State Fair. 

Carrollton’s Early Childhood Center for preschool-age children opened in the former church building on Scio Road where the current administration offices are located. 

Returning lettermen on the Carrollton High School boys cross-country team included Ryan Smith, Joe Kakascik, and Bradley Wheeler.

Malvern Council approved an ordinance creating a superintendent of village services. 

Steven D. Barnett was appointed chief assistant prosecuting attorney by Carroll County Prosecutor Donald H. Burns Jr. 

Brenton Miller, Brody Robinson, and Jakob Green were named captains of Carrollton High School’s 2015 football team.
