The Carroll County Airport was beginning to take form as heavy earth equipment began cutting away the knoll to be the southwestern half of the new runway.
Charles (Cy) Butler, a native of Carrollton and national president of the Hot Stove League, died at age 69.
John Savona, a senior middle guard on the Green Hornet team at Malvern High School, gained honorable mention on the Associated Press All-Ohio Class A football squad.

Carrollton police were probing five break-ins of homes in the northwest section of town on the same evening.
Jon M. Green, owner of Jon Green Insurance Agency, was elected president of the Carrollton Chamber of Commerce for 1976.
Returning lettermen on Carrollton’s Warrior wrestling team, under new head coach Ralph Lloyd, included Tom Castle, Scott White, Charles Nelson, John Neider, Howard Holland, Jeff Simmons, Lyle Drake and Jamie Reed.

Paul Long was sworn in as the new mayor of Dellroy.
James (Jim) Long was elected president of the Carroll County Agricultural Society.
Debbie Boggs, a junior at Carrollton High School, was named the local winner of the Voice of Democracy contest.
Corey Harper led the Carrollton Warriors to a 68-61 caging of the Louisville Leopards.

Clayton Shotwell, an 11-year-old Carrollton-area boy, was named the Honorary Firefighter of the Year, as a result of the safe escape of his parents, Linda and Steve Shotwell, and pet dog Sparky from their burning home.
Carrollton High School speech team students who took first-place honors at a speech tournament held at Canton South High School included Tonya Kuruc, Kaci Roof, Lacy Papai, Dan Princic, Ben Sperduto and Kevin Miller.
After trailing throughout the third quarter, Carrollton’s Lady Warriors rallied to a 34-32 win over Minerva.

The Dollar General store on Canton Road leased a portion of the former Ames building.
Carroll County Christian Academy students with lead roles in the production of “Miracle at Midnight” included Jon Gassman, John Ullman, Kenny Beresh, Danae Dawson and Josh Merrill.
The Sandy Valley cagers picked up two Inter-Valley Conference wins by defeating Tuscarawas Central Catholic 64-51 and Strasburg 52-47.

Chris Barto was elected president of Carrollton Village Council.
Jeff Tipton, a Center Township trustee, was elected president of the Carroll County Township Association.
Malvern’s Sara Loomis recorded a double-double during the Hornets’ 58-35 win over Inter-Valley Conference foe Ridgewood when she dropped 25 points, including a three-pointer and two free throws, and recorded a season-high 18 rebounds against the Generals. Team member Kelsi Hulit chipped in 17 points for the winners, including a 3-of-6 performance from the foul line.
