60 YEARS AGO 

From 1965 FPS Files 

Selected as members of the 1965 Carrollton High School homecoming court were Queen Beverly Rogers and attendants Milli Kempthorne, Cathy Beckley, Phyllis Newell and Jeri Mathison. 

The 115th annual Carroll County Fair was underway. 

Miss Mildred Visnick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Visnick of Rt. 5, Carrollton, was selected as the 1965 Carroll County Dairy Princess. 

The Carrollton High School Warriors chalked up their second consecutive shutout of the 1965 football season by defeating visiting Toronto High School 20-0. 

50 YEARS AGO 

From 1975 FPS Files 

Carrollton High School’s 1975 homecoming court included Carolyn Huffman, Deb Manfull, Becky Peterson, Marcy Seich and Vicki Weir. 

Shirley Eckley was named chairman of the Carrollton Area Bicentennial Committee. 

Susan Sutherland, a 1975 graduate of Malvern High School, was honored as the 1975 Outstanding Teenager of Ohio during a brief program held in front of the village hall in Waynesburg. 

The cross-country Warriors all but demolished visiting Newcomerstown 19-44 with lead runner Kevin Spears turning in a winning time of 10:14. 

40 YEARS AGO 

From 1985 FPS Files 

Nancy Oyer, a 2-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Oyer of East Twp., was the subject of an extensive search when she wandered from her home. The search ended when she was found unharmed, sleeping in a pile of weeds near a cornfield on her parents’ farm more than seven hours after she was reported missing. 

Don Marshall and Marie Henderson of the Dellroy Ruritan Club were pictured making shelves for storage in the chicken barbecue barn in preparation for the 1985 Algonquin Mill Fall Festival. 

Carrollton Schools’ current Superintendent David Davis was featured in a 1985 story as a member of the Ohio State University Marching Band, where he drove from Carrollton to Columbus for weekly band rehearsals. 

30 YEARS AGO 

From 1995 FPS Files 

Carrollton Village Council voted to reduce the number of “No Parking” signs to one or two at the entrances to village allotments upon the recommendation of Village Solicitor Atty. Donald Burns. 

John Linton of Wells St., Carrollton, was the subject of a feature story in the 1995 FPS detailing his hobby as a ham amateur radio operator. 

One of the best football teams in the area was the Conotton Valley Rockets, who remained unbeaten following an easy 36-7 win over Bellaire St. John. 

20 YEARS AGO 

From 2005 FPS Files 

Mindy Davis and Rose Seck were selected to receive the Musician of the Year awards from the Carroll County Chapter of the Music Study Club. 

The five queen candidates for Carrollton High School’s 2005 homecoming were Alexandria Yee, Jaquie Williams, Danea Miller, Sara Bodle and Kaci Walton. 

Members of the first-place Carrollton Lady Warriors cross country team, coached by Lisa Baker, included Carrie Frampton, Nancy Wenner, Katie Brown, Jenny Podratz, Jen Foster, Amanda Moyer and Brooke Sevek. 

10 YEARS AGO 

From 2015 FPS Files 

A groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new Muskingum Recovery Center at the Ohio FFA Camp Muskingum on Leesville Lake. 

Drew Simone and Garett Davis were hired as full-time volunteer firefighters on the village department. 

Carrollton’s Maddie Dunlap and Cole Lovett led their cross-country teams at the Malone Cross Country Invitational with times of 19:17 and 16:39, respectively.
