The office of Cong. Wayne L. Hays announced the appointment of Harry R. Anderson of Park Ave., Carrollton, as acting postmaster of Carrollton.
Four candidates were seeking the one term for Carrollton Village Clerk at the Nov. 2 general election. They included Christina M. Bowen, Gladys B. Miller, Leota Myers and Barbara Nicholson.
The outstanding CHS combine maintained its undefeated status by downing St. Clairsville 12-8 in the Big Six Conference game with touchdowns by Warriors quarterback Dick Tinlin and junior halfback Pat Herron.
50 YEARS AGO

A race existed for the Nov. 4 election with nine candidates seeking the three seats on the Carrollton Board of Education. They included Keith D. Burgett, Larry L. Carpenter, Ronald R. Davis (incumbent), Larry W. Garner, Larry Honnold, John J. Moffett, James C. Ray, Glenn Scarlott and Richard K. Whipkey.
A contest also loomed for two Carrollton Village Council seats with three candidates seeking the post. They included Ann Green, Sue Johnston and Mary Ann Miller.
For the first time in 39 years, Carrollton High School had a sporting team (cross country) going to a state tournament. Coached by Craig Winters, team members included Scott Wade, Jeff McClelland, Ralph Brady, Kevin Spears, Barry Gaines, Brett Harsh and Jeff Gween. Dan Wells served as assistant coach, and Roger Lanka was the team’s trainer and manager.

Dr. Carl A. Lincke, a Carrollton physician who retired in 1983 from actively practicing medicine, donated his medical office at 24 Second St. NE to the Carroll County Health Department.
Trustee races existed in 12 of Carroll County’s 14 townships, while there were contests for clerk’s positions in Center, Lee, Orange, Rose and Washington townships. The trustee races were in Augusta, Brown, Center, East, Harrison, Lee, Loudon, Monroe, Orange, Perry, Rose and Union.
Carrollton’s golf team claimed third in the state league with a 9-5 season record. Golf lettermen included Rich Smith, Steve Bernard, Andy Johnston, Todd English, Mitch Evans and Tom Cartwright.

Numerous races loomed for the Nov. 7 election, including contests for Carrollton mayor, clerk-treasurer and council. They included: Mayor candidates incumbent Harold K. Laizure, C. Rodger Barto and Wilmer R. Best; clerk-treasurer contenders Betty Davis, Judi A. Noble and Vickie L. Reed; and candidates for the two Village Council seats John Moody (incumbent), Hal N. Harsh, William D. Abrahims (incumbent) and David N. Flanary.

Matt Hice, a Malvern High School senior, was installed as a state 4-H ambassador.
Dustin Hemming, a Carrollton High School graduate, was splitting his time between the varsity and junior varsity football squads at Baldwin Wallace College, where he was a junior.

Morgan Cook and Bobby Collier were crowned Sandy Valley High School’s 2005 homecoming queen and king.
Dellroy High School’s Class of 1934 held its 71st class reunion at the home of Ruby Huff. Attending were Ada McCarty Buxton, Kathryn Papai Spillman, Carl “Bill” McCarty, Wilbur “Mitch” Wetzel and Frank Truman.
CHS senior Jen Foster and junior Zach Adams qualified for the cross country regionals.

Four candidates were seeking the two seats on the Carrollton Board of Education at the Nov. 3 general election. They included Wendy Gotschall, Daniel Pesta, Mike Pozderac and Helen Skinner.
Carrollton’s Lady Warriors volleyball team became sectional champions with wins over No. 9 River View and No. 4 Beaver Local.
The Conotton Valley Rockets played their first game under new, permanent lights when senior recognition night was also observed.
