60 YEARS AGO 

From 1965 FPS Files 

A request by the Carroll County Board of Education to transfer the entire Augusta Local School District to the Carrollton Exempted Village School District was accepted by the Carrollton Board of Education. 

Filling Carroll County’s 187th induction call into the Armed Services were Paul L. Cogan, Ronald E. Pisklo, Jan Smith, Richard Brooks, Albert D. Buzzelli, Robert D. St. John, David E. Jones, Teddric D. Workinger, Robert C. LeBeau, Robert C. Hunter, Richard L. Toole and Richard L. Rittenhouse. 

Airman Third Class Charles B. Huddleston was featured in a front-page story regarding his squadron while serving at Tan Son Nhut Airfield in Vietnam. 

The Carrollton Warriors tied the Cambridge Bobcats 14-14, giving the Warriors an 8-1-1 season when CHS quarterback Dick Tinlin scored both touchdowns. 

50 YEARS AGO 

From 1975 FPS Files 

James Noble, a 1974 Carrollton High School graduate, was the national winner of the FFA soil, air and water management award at the 48th annual National Future Farmers of America Convention held in Kansas City, Missouri. 

Merle R. Esterly of Malvern was appointed assistant superintendent and acting superintendent of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Carroll County maintenance operations. 

Jim DeMario was the Carrollton football team’s lone player selected to the Senate League All-Star team. 

40 YEARS AGO 

From 1985 FPS Files 

A dedication and open house were held for the newly completed $444,079 addition to Dellroy Elementary School. 

Paul Bortz of Malvern was re-elected president of the Carroll County Farm Bureau. 

"The Wizard of Oz" was presented at Carrollton High School. Lead roles were held by Mendi Smith as Dorothy, Todd Potts as the Tin Woodman, Brad Clark as the Cowardly Lion and Julie Guchemand as the Scarecrow. 

Sandy Valley’s head football coach, Mickey Keck, was honored as the Senate League Coach of the Year. 

30 YEARS AGO 

From 1995 FPS Files 

John McNutt and Gail Ash, longtime supporters of the Carroll County 4-H program, received Honorary 4-H Member awards at the 4-H Advisors Recognition Banquet. 

Carrollton High School speech students who received first place in their respective categories at a tournament held at Jackson High School included Kayci Roof, Brooke Thomas, Lacy Papai and Chrisi Carter. 

Carrollton football players receiving special awards at the year-end banquet included Chuck Youngen, Aaron Paulette, Dan Little, Mark McCort, Mark Grimm and Phil Grimm. 

20 YEARS AGO

Andrew J. (Drew) Dodds was completing his apprenticeship to become a funeral director with Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home. 

“Entertainment Through the Eras,” an annual variety show, was presented at Sandy Valley High School. Performers included Jake Rapp, Chaz Stead and Joe Lincoln. 

Winning special awards at Carrollton’s volleyball banquet were Julie Incerpi, Maria Miller, Tara Incerpi, Sarah Mangun, Kristen Lash and Ashley Scott.

Lineal Industries of Pennsylvania donated $119,876 worth of materials to the Carrollton Board of Education to be used for hiking and walking trails on the school property on Scio Road. 

The Carrollton High School FFA general livestock judging team, advised by Kelli Pridemore, placed first in Ohio and 15th in the nation. Team members included Travis Johnson, Adam Bryan, Kady Davis and Dustin Pape. 

Michelle and Scott Rowan of Bergholz purchased Bud’s Flowers and Gifts in Carrollton from Lindsy Gween and Julie McIntire.
