Carrollton school demolition on track for mid-October completion

Contractor recycling debris; community invited to collect bricks outside fenced area.

The only portion of the two school buildings standing late Friday afternoon, Sept. 9, was the southwest corner of the former Carrollton Elementary School building, which was constructed in 1913.

Demolition of the two Carrollton school buildings between Second Street NE and Third Street NE is continuing, with scrap piles being recycled by contractor Gary Moderalli of Moderalli Excavating Inc. of Poland.

The two buildings are now down, and the remaining debris is being hauled to a landfill. “Once the material is hauled offsite, we will commence with the grading and the work should be finished in mid-October,” Moderalli said.

Anyone wanting a brick from either school is welcome to take one from piles located outside the fenced-in area. Carrollton Schools Superintendent David Davis asked that people not go inside the fence because it is not safe.
