Pedestrian seriously injured in hit-skip crash on U.S. 250 in Tuscarawas County

The New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that seriously injured a pedestrian Aug. 7,  on U.S. 250 in Goshen Township, Tuscarawas County.

The crash occurred at about 12:19 p.m. near milepost 12.1. A preliminary investigation found that a 2003 Peterbilt commercial vehicle was disabled on the southwest berm of U.S. 250 eastbound. A 2011 Ford F-550 service truck was parked in front of the disabled vehicle, and the service technician and truck driver were working on the left front tire on the berm.

Troopers said a 2005 Sterling L8500 truck was traveling southbound on U.S. 250 when it drifted over the white fog line and struck the service technician. The truck then left the scene.

The victim, Travis Brown, 24, of Steubenville, was flown by Med Flight to Akron Summa Hospital. The truck driver, Travis Wells, 28, of Hopedale, sustained possible injuries and was treated at the scene.

The suspect truck and driver were located hours later at a local business. Troopers identified the driver as Randall Schuler, 33, of Freeport. He was operating a company vehicle owned by Sparks Commercial Tire of New Philadelphia at the time of the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the New Philadelphia Fire Department, New Philadelphia Police Department, the Ohio Department of Transportation and Med Flight.
