New Philadelphia boys win Kaspar Memorial Invitational
At the Jeff Arthurs Invitational the previous week, Claymont’s girls won with 156 points while the boys finished fourth with 76
Claymont girls celebrate their win at their own Jeff Arthurs Invitational meet March 28.
Claymont Track and Field
New Philadelphia’s boys track team, fresh off its indoor state title, opened the outdoor season in strong fashion, winning the Joe Kaspar Memorial Invitational at Meadowbrook April 4. The Quakers totaled 161 points to easily outdistance runner-up St. Clairsville, which finished with 106.
Event winners for New Philadelphia included Caleb Carlisle in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, Marcus Adelman in the 800-meter run, Kevin Smith in the 3200, Cade Jones in the pole vault and Mitchell Miller in the high jump. Miller’s winning jump of 6 feet, 7 inches — especially this early in the season — makes him one to watch.
The Quakers’ 4x100-meter relay team also took first place.
On the girls side, Kylie Smith won the 3200, Khloe Sours claimed the high jump, Jillian Hanes won the long jump and the 4x400-meter relay team also finished first.
The New Philadelphia girls placed second, just 1.5 points behind Dover, which won with 95 points.
Dover
The Dover girls captured the Kaspar Memorial title, edging New Philadelphia by 1.5 points. Event winners included Samantha Hawk in the 100-meter hurdles, Bridge McCrate in the 300-meter hurdles, Maddie Minnis in the shot put and the 4x100-meter relay team.
The Dover boys finished third with 94 points behind New Philadelphia and St. Clairsville. Chase Daniel won the 1600-meter run, and the 4x800-meter relay team also finished first.
Tusky Valley
The Trojan girls won the JD Milburn Relays in Newcomerstown April 4 with 58 points, topping Ridgewood’s 50. The boys team placed third with 50 points behind River View (58) and Indian Valley (55).
Winning performances for the girls included the 4x1600-meter relay, 4x800-meter relay, distance medley relay, 4x400-meter relay and senior Katie Armstrong in the pole vault. For the boys, winners included the 4x1600-meter relay, sprint medley relay and senior Barrett Bandy in the long jump.
Claymont
The Mustang girls and boys finished ninth and 11th, respectively, at the Kaspar Memorial. Brody Cameron placed eighth in the shot put for the boys.
For the girls, Kinley Preston finished third in the 400-meter dash, Aleah Apeck was third in the 300-meter hurdles, Kali Wallace placed third in the 1600 and junior Jadyn Sproul placed in the discus.

Individual winners included Braxtyn Myers in the 3200, Whitnee Wallace in the 100 and 200, Kali Wallace in the 800 and Sproul in both the discus and shot put. The girls’ 4x100- and 4x800-meter relay teams also won.
Indian Valley
Both Braves teams turned in strong performances at the Milburn Relays. The boys placed second, 58-55, behind River View, while the girls were third with 43 points behind Tusky Valley and Ridgewood.
The boys won the 440 shuttle hurdle relay, distance medley relay and 4x400-meter relay. The girls had runner-up finishes in the 4x1600-meter relay, distance medley relay and from sophomore Auria McDaniel in the pole vault.
Newcomerstown
The Trojan girls finished fourth in their own JD Milburn Relays with 41 points, while the boys were eighth. Winning events for the girls included the 4x100-meter relay, 400 shuttle hurdle relay and 4x200-meter relay.
Tuscarawas Central Catholic
Competing at the Jeff Arthurs Invitational at Claymont March 28, the Knights had several strong individual performances. Senior Elena Price led the way with wins in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs.
