Graduating senior backs plan for new schools

It is difficult to imagine returning to this area after college if the community is unwilling to invest in future generations

As a graduating senior who will not have the opportunity to experience these new schools, I am writing in strong support of the proposed plan to build new schools on a single campus.

From very recent experience, I can speak to the many challenges our current buildings face. Safety, aging infrastructure, lack of efficient heating and cooling, inability to offer flexible learning environments, lack of accessibility for individuals with disabilities. The list can go on and on; however, the most important reason is the significant impact that new schools can have on our community.

Through sports, leadership opportunities and College Credit Plus courses, I have been fortunate to experience many different schools and learning environments. While I am a Quaker at heart, it is difficult to imagine returning to this area after college if the community is unwilling to invest in future generations.

Schools are the cornerstone of the community. It is amazing to see so many people come out to various events, but that number has started to decrease through the years and the population will continue to decrease if we don’t act now. New schools will attract new businesses and families to the area. New schools will allow for flexible learning environments and better prepare students for 21st century jobs. New schools will ensure our students and staff are safe.

It is time for our community to step up and invest in our schools. I encourage voters to support this plan and vote yes for our future students and for the continued growth of our community. I am excited to vote for the first time and this vote will be in support of new schools for New Philadelphia.
