Edison girls stay unbeaten with 74-44 win over Harrison Central
Edison entered the night riding a perfect start and did nothing to suggest a slowdown was coming
The Edison Lady Wildcats continued their season Thursday, Jan. 22, overpowering Harrison Central 74-44 to keep their unbeaten record intact.
Edison entered the night riding a perfect start and did nothing to suggest a slowdown was coming. The Wildcats set the tone early on their home floor, using quick offense and steady pressure to build a 19-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. That opening burst proved to be the start of a high-scoring night for the Wildcats, who kept adding to the margin and never allowed the Huskies to settle in.
Edison carried its first-quarter momentum into the second period and extended its lead to 37-13 by halftime. The Wildcats’ ability to score in transition and capitalize at the line kept the pressure on, while Harrison Central struggled to generate consistent offense against Edison’s pace.
Edison opened the third quarter with nine straight points, all coming from the free-throw line, and continued to widen the gap. The Wildcats scored 28 points over the third and fourth quarters to finish with 74.
Harrison Central stayed with its game plan and kept fighting throughout. The Huskies scored five points in the second quarter, then produced their second-best scoring quarter of the night in the third with 13 points. In the fourth quarter, the Huskies’ offense looked more like its usual self, adding 16 points to close out the final total of 44.
Kara Blackburn and Mikayla Pelegreen led Harrison Central with eight points apiece. Emily Cope followed with seven points. Bailey Smith scored six, and Shayla Nameth added five. Ella Smith finished with four points, while Zoe Whipkey, Ady Stull and Destinee Robinson scored two points each.
Blackburn hit two 3-pointers for the Huskies, Bailey Smith added two and Cope connected on one.
Junior varsity
Edison completed a sweep on the night with an 18-6 junior varsity victory. The Wildcats led 8-6 after the first period, then shut out Harrison Central in the second while adding 10 points of their own to pull away.
Glover led Edison in the junior varsity game with 13 points. Sophia Henderson added 11, while Bella Cronin and Anna Casta scored 10 points apiece.
