Cadiz Police chief facing heat for park incident
McCann was shooting groundhogs as he’s been doing for years, and has had requests to do so
A special meeting was held Monday, June 8 inside the Cadiz Municipal building to address an incident resulting from Police Chief Ryan McCann firing his weapon in Sally Buffalo Park Friday, June 5. McCann was shooting groundhogs as he’s been doing for years, and has had requests to do so. But this time a bullet apparently ricocheted off something and hit a camper.
Cadiz Council members were mostly in executive session for the duration of the meeting and publicly, could only say they had instilled a temporary ban on firearms at the park. No other comments were made. McCann, reached on Tuesday, could only talk off the record but said he wanted to speak at the meeting but was told to not speak for the time being.
Mayor, R. Kevin Jones said a report will be released and then questions could be answered. There were obvious questions during the meeting as to why firearms are permitted to be used on campground property. No one was hurt and the investigation is ongoing.
