Biblical faith is tough as nails

From David to Paul and Silas, Scripture shows that unwavering trust in God overcomes every trial

King David had it, and so did Rahab. Daniel in the Old Testament and Paul and Silas in the New Testament had it, too. What was it? Tough as nails faith.

These biblical figures stand as eternal examples of courage and conviction. When Goliath taunted Israel, David was the only one with faith strong enough to step forward. He asked, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine who taunts the armies of the living God?” David recognized that Goliath, outside of covenant with God, had no protection or promise of victory. David knew his rights as a child of God. Do we? When spiritual opposition comes, believers can remember who has a covenant and who does not.

Rahab, known for her past, showed her faith when she hid Israel’s spies and chose God’s side. She not only saved herself and her family but became part of Israel’s lineage. Her descendants included King David and ultimately Jesus the Messiah.

Daniel’s faith shone when he defied King Darius’ edict and continued praying three times a day. Cast into the lion’s den, he was spared as God shut the lions’ mouths. His accusers did not survive the same fate. Daniel’s loyalty was rewarded.

Paul and Silas, beaten and jailed for freeing a slave girl from demonic control, refused to complain. Instead, they prayed and praised God from prison. Their faith shook the jail, freed them, and led the jailer to salvation.

Biblical faith is not passive. It doesn’t give up. It isn’t weak. It is tough as nails.
