Harrison Central baseball, softball clubs hold fundraiser
The event marked the fifth year the clubs have partnered for the fundraiser
The Harrison Central Baseball and Softball clubs held a joint fundraiser Feb. 27 at Cadiz Country Club. The event marked the fifth year the clubs have partnered for the fundraiser.
“We are very appreciative of our sponsors and the Cadiz Country Club for letting us use their facility,” softball assistant coach Tom Kenny said. “We usually have around 15 coaches and other volunteers doing everything from cooking the fish and fries, taking orders, delivering dinners.”
“On average it takes around 350 pounds of fish for the 400 dinners we serve,” Kenny said. He said the price was raised this year because the cost of fish increased by $1.50 per pound. Kenny also said the event was moved to the second Friday after Ash Wednesday at a supplier’s request.
“The fundraisers have always been a success for our ball teams,” Kenny said. “A lot of factors go into making the success we experience. However, having the many volunteers show up and assist us in the preparation and cooking was one of the chief factors. Also, the students and the individuals helping with the deliveries also had a key place in the success.”
Kenny thanked sponsors, including Adena American Legion, Adena Sons of the American Legion, BellStores, Border Patrol, Coffman Lawn Care, D and E Electric, D and J Sales and Service, Keesey Chiropractic, Lauren Knight, Sheriff Mark Touville, Vintage Fitness and Woodsfield Savings Bank.
He also thanked others who contributed funds, sold dinner tickets and 50/50 raffle tickets, took orders at the event and helped with cleanup.
