Harrison Community Hospital adds 3D mammography system

The system allows radiologists to better see through overlapping tissue to detect potential abnormalities and support earlier detection of breast cancer

WVU Medicine Harrison Community Hospital is offering the Hologic 3Dimensions Mammography System with Genius AI Detection.

The hospital said the breast tomosynthesis system creates a three-dimensional image of breast tissue, allowing radiologists to better see through overlapping tissue to detect potential abnormalities and support earlier detection of breast cancer.

The hospital is also using the MammoPad Breast Cushion, a foam cushion designed to make exams more comfortable, along with the SmartCurve compression paddle. The hospital said the curved design mirrors the shape of the breast to reduce pinching and applies uniform compression.

“We are so grateful for the significant advancement in technology that allows our community to receive a higher level of accuracy in breast cancer screenings closer to home,” Karen Mihalic, director of imaging operations, said. “Patients no longer need to travel to larger facilities to have the superior image quality that we now offer coupled with a much more comfortable exam.”
