The Hopedale village garage may see improvements, as Mayor Mike Pelegreen said the building loses heat during the winter months. He said officials attempted to combine funding for that work with money being sought for two other projects but were told insulating the garage must be handled separately.
Those projects — a culvert on W. Main Street and the Carson Street retaining wall — are moving forward, Pelegreen said. He said the village should know by April or May about funding. The projects are being pursued through the Spicer Group in conjunction with the Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association.
“We’ve got one of the top people in state to get grants,” he said of Spicer’s Erin Wright.
Pelegreen is now receiving estimates from three separate companies, Yoder, KNW Contracting and Swartz for constructing a new salt building for housing their deicing salt and equipment. The village received 15 tons of salt from the county leaving them with 20 tons and 23 tons of grits.
Items revealed at the Feb. 11 are as follows:
— An application for demolition of a Virginia Street house was approved.
— A new Ford utility truck was delivered.
— A large icicle fell from the village water tower onto a Lahm Drive building causing damage.
— A downspout at the village garage needs repaired at an estimated cost of around $600.
— Crack sealing has been planned for the beginning of June and street cleaning will be coming soon.
— Pelegreen is seeking for the financing of a new F-550 truck.
— Under water and sewer, a change order was approved for $42,018 to switch out the altitude valve.
— Ordinance 2026-02, adopting a five-year water rate increase was read for the second time.
