A case dating to 2014 resurfaced in Harrison County Common Pleas Court as Autumn Stabile, 31, of McMechen, West Virginia, appeared on a probation violation, according to Judge T. Shawn Hervey.
Stabile was one of three defendants in a robbery and kidnapping case in Jewett 12 years ago in which the victim was badly beaten, Hervey said. Brian K. Nocosia received a four-year prison sentence in the case. Another defendant, Kara K. Clark, was released in early 2015 on her own recognizance after her bond was reduced. She was charged with obstruction and later sentenced.
Stabile was initially charged with conspiracy to aggravated burglary and conspiracy to kidnapping, both first-degree felonies. She was later sentenced on an obstruction charge to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center for Women and two years of probation. A warrant was issued after she failed to complete probation and disappeared for more than 11 years, Hervey said. She was arrested in January.
Stabile appeared remotely from jail. Her attorney, Logan Graham, was present in the courtroom. Hervey said the violations included “walking away from treatment” and failing to report to her probation officer. Stabile was also accused of failing to pay $1,404.34 in court costs.
Following negotiations between Graham and Prosecutor Lauren Knight, Stabile will undergo a new Ohio Risk Assessment and evaluation at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center, Hervey said. Hervey also said the 351 days Stabile has spent in jail will count toward any sentence.
Hervey set bond at $60,000, $10,000 less than Knight requested, and granted the prosecutor’s request that there be no 10 percent option.
Graham said there were no new charges or allegations against Stabile. He said she has lived with her spouse for four years in Marshall County, West Virginia, and has worked for a family business. Graham said Stabile has continued counseling at a West Virginia University facility and previously attended Applegate Recovery, formerly Recovery Pathways. He said she would continue recovery efforts and report to the Harrison County Probation Department if she posted bond.
Hervey denied Graham’s request for a 10% bond option. Stabile agreed to sign a waiver of extradition.
