Tar Heels remain unbeaten in youth league play

Following Saturday, Feb. 21, Harrison Central Youth Basketball League play, the Tar Heels of the third- and fourth-grade division remain the only undefeated team in both divisions.
Opening the day, the Bulls of the fifth- and sixth-grade division took on the Hornets. It quickly became an easy day for the Bulls, as shots from every direction found the bottom of the net. They continued the sharp shooting for the full 24 minutes and closed the contest with a 30-18 victory.
Game 2 resulted in a near mirror image of the opener. The Spartans of the same division faced the Warriors and closed out a 29-14 win.
The 11 a.m. game continued the theme of decisive victories. In third- and fourth-grade action, the Huskies took on the Cavs and secured a 23-9 win.
The noon contest in the same division produced another dominant performance, as the Knights defeated the Vikings 22-3.
Both the Tar Heels of the third- and fourth-grade division and the Vikings of the fifth- and sixth-grade division were on bye during the day’s action.
Overall team records as of last week in the third- and fourth-grade division were Tar Heels 4-0, Knights 2-1, Huskies 1-2, Cavs 1-2 and Vikings 0-3.
In the fifth- and sixth-grade division, records last week were Vikings 3-1, Hornets 2-1, Spartans 2-1, Bulls 1-2 and Warriors 0-3.
The top five scorers in the third- and fourth-grade division are Harper Dunlap with 38 points, Louis Thaxton with 35, Layne Harris with 28, Karysa Bryant with 26 and Kolt Anderson with 14.
In the fifth- and sixth-grade division, Vontae Robinson moved into the top spot with 62 points, followed by Kamden VanCuren with 53, Blake Barcroft with 43, Paxton Smith with 33 and Tyson Sturgeon with 24.

Dunlap scored 8 points to help lift her team and keep the Tar Heels undefeated.
Barcroft connected on a 3-pointer in overtime to lift his team past the Spartans in their first defeat.
