Tiverton Institute returns March 4-5

Coshocton County hosts annual event with contests, speakers, and music at Grange Hall.

The annual Tiverton Institute will be held Wednesday, March 4 and Thursday, March 5 at the Grange Hall in Tiverton Center at the intersection of County Road 20 and state Route 206.

Activities will begin each day at 9:45 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts, followed by group singing at 10:15 a.m.

There will be a cherry pie baking contest Wednesday for adults and a baking contest for children age 16 and younger featuring chocolate brownies. A poster contest with the theme “Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday” also will be held.

One speaker for Wednesday will be Ken Smailes at 10:30 a.m. He will share the history of Coshocton County. At 1 p.m. Chris Hart will present “Oh Say Can’t You See,” and Sheriff Chris Walters will share about the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office.

Music for Wednesday evening will be the New Castle Kids singing. A bird presentation about raptors also will be at 7 p.m.

At 10:30 a.m. Thursday, a representative from the veterans service office will present the history of the military, and Bob Buxton will talk about the history of the Coshocton County Fair. Alice Hoover will share a Betsy Ross Reenactment, and Glenn Kinkade will talk about the history of the Coshocton County Home. Both will begin at 1 p.m.

A soup supper will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, followed by music at 7 p.m. with Ryan Teti and local youth.

A covered dish carry-in lunch will be held each day, and there will be door prizes all day both days. For more information call 740-502-5289.
