From 1965 FPS Files
An unofficial total of 5,259 votes were cast in the November election in Carroll County when Christina Bowen defeated three other candidates for the office of village clerk, and Al Maffett was the successful write-in candidate for Carrollton Village Council.
Harold Noble, a 1959 graduate of Carrollton High School, was employed by The Cummings Bank Company.
Lance Corporal Joseph R. Kean, who was stationed at the Marine Barracks, U.S. Naval Base, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was awarded a Meritorious Mast for his outstanding performance of duty as assistant postal clerk at the Marine Barracks.
Scoring touchdowns in Carrollton High’s undefeated season and 12-8 win over Springfield Local were Warriors Bill Hemming and Stan Frey.
50 YEARS AGO

Dr. Keith G. Burgett, Ronald Davis and Atty. John J. Moffett won the nine-candidate race for the Carrollton Board of Education. Carrollton Village Council winners were Mary Ann Miller and Ann Green.
James Noble, a 1974 graduate of Carrollton High School, received the Eastern United States regional proficiency award at the 48th annual National FFA Convention held in Kansas City, Missouri.
Other FFA members from CHS attending the event included Stefanie Seich, Pat Bryan, Brenda Walters, Jeff Bellamy, Mark Noble, Steve Huffman, Randy Lozier and Annette Beadnell.
Scoring a touchdown in each of two first quarters was just enough for the Minerva Lions to win a hard-fought 13-6 battle over the East Canton Hornets.

Carrying 16 of the 24 precincts in the Carrollton Exempted Village School District, incumbents Gordon Evans and R. Herbert Rutledge won seats back on the board of education.
Fred A. Boggs of Carrollton was elected worshipful master of Carroll Lodge 124, Free and Accepted Masons.
Four students advanced in a Tae Kwon Do karate school taught by Charles Theiss in Carrollton. They included Thomas Anthony, Herbert Wade, Tom Johnson and Theiss.

Incumbents were unseated in races for Carrollton mayor and clerk/treasurer in the Nov. 7 general election. C. Rodger Barto unseated Mayor Harold K. Laizure, while Clerk-Treasurer Betty Davis was unseated by challenger Judi A. Noble.
Rachel Chapman and Tony Wright, both seniors and four-year members of the Minerva High School Marching Band, shared the Dr. John Mac Snively scholar-musician award.
The charter for the Fighting McCook Post 3301, Veterans of Foreign Wars, was granted May 17, 1935, with 56 veterans being charter members, making 2025 the post’s 90th anniversary.
The Conotton Valley Rockets blasted off the grid pad by soaring to a 50-0 win over Buckeye Trail, ending the year with a 9-1 record.

Receiving awards at the National FFA Convention from Carrollton High School were Katie Rummell, Tim Shipley and Peggy Trushel.
Carrollton’s top golfers honored at a banquet included Ben Smith, Tom Parker and Cory Dillon.
Jeff Fishburn and Chip Henry formed Henry & Fishburn Construction.

Carrollton’s incumbent mayor Frank Leghart was defeated by political newcomer William Stoneman, while Darla Tipon won the two-way race with Angela Gonda for clerk-treasurer.
Bell-Herron Middle School was inundated with zombies, witches and scarecrows during Carrollton’s annual Halloween party. (Costumed winners are shown in the accompanying photo.)
The Carrollton Warriors outscored the Minerva Lions 49-21 in the season football finale.
