It may be time to use the word “dynasty” when discussing Carrollton wrestling.

With a 43-32 road victory over West Branch Feb. 11, the Warriors completed an unbeaten run through the Eastern Buckeye Conference and secured their fifth consecutive conference championship.

Both teams entered the dual unbeaten in conference play, setting up a winner-take-all matchup.

Cohen Little opened the night with a technical fall at 106 pounds. Sawyer Broadwater (113) and Jaxon Sutton (120) followed with pins as Carrollton built an early advantage in the lower weight classes.

After a loss at 126, Zander Spilker won by decision at 132. Ozzy Roybal earned a technical fall, and John Childs added a pin at 144. Ja’waye Richardson (157) and Darion DePalmo (175) sealed the win with pins.

The following night, Carrollton defeated New Philadelphia 57-10 in a nonconference dual.

Little (106) and Jaxon Sutton (120) won by forfeit, and Broadwater added a pin as the Warriors built a commanding lead. Carrollton lost only three bouts, two by decision and one by major decision.

Childs and Jayden Sutton won by fall, Brody Gonda recorded a technical fall, and Richardson won by forfeit. DePalmo earned a major decision, Jamasen Powell won by forfeit and Wyatt Ridzon added a pin.

Carrollton will compete in the Division II sectional tournament Feb. 28 at Claymont High School.

Girls basketball

The Lady Warriors, a top seed in the Division IV East 1 District, split two nonconference games last week.

On Feb. 9, Carrollton edged Warren John F. Kennedy 76-75. Kylie Ujcich scored 35 points, Emma Shafer added 16 and Lexie Bowie had 9.

Two days later, Carrollton fell to North Canton Hoover 46-31. Ujcich led the Warriors (14-8) with 11 points, Shafer added 10 and Ivy Bishop scored 5.

Boys basketball

Carrollton closed its EBC schedule with a 73-50 win at Salem on Feb. 14.

The teams were tied at halftime before the Warriors used a 24-6 third quarter to pull away.

Tayvian Johnson scored 22 points and had 6 assists. Drew Gero added a career-high 13 points, and Marcus Brooks recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for Carrollton (14-6, 6-4). Deontay Steele led Salem (5-15, 0-10) with 18 points.

Bowling

Carrollton’s bowling teams defeated Minerva in an EBC match and later topped Dover on Feb. 16.

At the Division II East girls sectional Feb. 11 at Boulevard Lanes, the Lady Warriors placed second with a 2,983 pinfall total to advance to districts, finishing behind River View.

Senior Kaylee Russell, a former Division II state champion, placed second individually with a 548 series, two pins behind Minerva’s Bailey Wood.

Carrollton’s boys will begin postseason play Feb. 25 at the Division I East District tournament at Shawnee Lanes.

In dual matches at Minerva Bowl Feb. 9, the Carrollton boys defeated Minerva 2,659-2,577. Noah Hutson rolled a 474 series, Khalen Green had a 447 and Colton Rummell added a 436.

The Lady Warriors defeated Minerva 2,124-2,067. Russell led with a 368 series, and Jocelynn Burkhart posted a 352.

Against Dover, the boys won 2,424-1,926. Jace Eckinger led with a 416 series, and Caleb Jurkiewicz rolled a 411. The girls won 1,920-1,432, with Russell rolling a 380 and Emma Brown adding a 347.
