During the meeting, she shared updates on district activities and upcoming events. She said the Purple Pinkie Project held last fall raised $7,000, which qualified for a 1-to-2 match from the Gates Foundation, resulting in $21,000 to support ongoing efforts to eradicate polio worldwide.
Weiss also highlighted service projects across the district, including peace-building initiatives such as the installation of Peace Poles in community locations by several clubs, including Minerva. Additional focus areas include conflict resolution, including ShelterBox efforts in Syria; environmental projects, including Operation Pollination; literacy initiatives, including support for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library; as well as maternal and child health, disease prevention and treatment and water and sanitation efforts.
She said four clubs within the district are celebrating 100-year anniversaries this year.
