Carrollton postal workers raise more than $6,000 for breast cancer cause
Fundraiser honoring local resident Shannon Wheatley combines stamp sales, auction and community event to support research and care
Employees of the Carrollton Post Office exceeded their goal during a monthlong breast cancer fundraiser held in October to benefit Carroll County resident Shannon Wheatley, who is battling stage 3 breast cancer.
Postmaster Brittani Rowe said the effort raised a total of $6,018.30 through the sale of breast cancer stamps, with all proceeds donated to Wheatley. Each stamp sold for 90 cents, with 12 cents from every sale directed to breast cancer research.
The campaign also featured a community event Oct. 24 on Second Street SW that included a silent auction, food truck and local vendors. Acoustic musician Dale Rogers provided live entertainment during the fundraiser.
