Zollikon Community Choir to perform fall concert Nov. 14 in Dover
Program at Dover First Moravian Church features sacred works by Betinis, Kirchner, Trotta and Powell, with additional performances later in November
The Zollikon Community Choir will present its seasonal concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Dover First Moravian Church.
Director Franklin Miller said this year’s program will feature “Blessed Be the Lord, My Rock” by Abbie Betinis, “Wana Baraka” by Shawn Kirchner, “Dies Irae” by Michael John Trotta, and “The Word God” by Rosephanye Powell.
“These songs typify the beliefs of the institute,” Miller said. “Our mission is to build a community of scholars on a foundation of historic Christianity that is manifested in early Anabaptist theology and perspective.”
Miller described the choir as unique because of its diverse membership. “Singers come from all over the state,” he said. “They include some who have never sung a note in their lives, as well as many who have been singing for 20 years. All learn from each other as they work to create something beautiful, enjoyable, and God-centered.”
Miller also expressed his gratitude to Dover First Moravian’s music director. “I particularly want to thank Randy Gibbs for his 50 years of service and the church for its hospitality,” he said. “We really enjoy performing there.”
Additional performances are scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 16, at 9:30 a.m. at Bethel Fellowship Church, and Sunday, Nov. 26, at 6:30 p.m. at Legacy Christian School.
All concerts are free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.
